In the new tradition of the British staycation, the FIFTY team have been making the most of their local areas. Our editor 'Samantha' is up first with her three most scenic treasures in Hertfordshire.

Just a 15 minute walk away from the hustle of Watford town centre is one of Hertfordshire's most prized locations - Cassiobury Park. A staple day out for any Herts family, and for a good reason. As well as numerous cafes, playgrounds and sports facilities, it’s adorned by sprawling woodland areas and wondrous waterfalls. The perfect location for a day out to escape.

Grand union canal

Accessible from Cassiobury Park, as well many other routes, the Grand Union Canal takes you through all key West Herts locations such as Watford, Kings Langley and Apsley. Described by The Shell Book of Inland Waterways as “one of the loveliest sections of canal in Britain.” There’s nothing more perfect on a Sunday afternoon than lazily walking down here as the sun beams down, and admiring the local wildlife.

Rickmansworth aquadrome

A large park and nature reserve based in Rickmansworth, the aquadrome boasts tonnes of walking routes that have spectacular views of sparkling water. Featuring a cafe that has a wide range of menu options, a total treat is to grab a hot drink and cake to-go and nestle on a lake-facing bench, watching the world go by.
